FAqs

What is the structure of the program?
The program will open up with a kick off in New York at the end of June. You will be matched with a mentor on the investment team and a mentor from the portfolio. The program finishes with a final retreat at the end of the summer. We will host various sessions in between as a group, ranging from portfolio founders to themed discussions to other special guests.

You will be personally matched to a mentor from a portfolio company and a mentor from the Lux investment team. Your mentors will meet with you regularly throughout the fellowship.
What are the deadlines and requirements of the projects?
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The due date is Friday, May 2, at 11:59PM PDT. Interviews will also be on a rolling basis, and final decisions will be announced approximately the first week of June.

You must be able to commit to spend in person three days at the end of June/early July in New York City and three days in September in the Bay Area. There will be mentorship check-ins throughout the fellowship, which may be in-person or remote. You should already be working on your project with some amount of progress and/or traction to show for it.
What are the terms of the grant?
The grant comes with no dilution and no strings attached. Our goal is to fund your existing projects and passions with no obligation. You do not need to work full time on your grant project throughout the summer, though we ask that you continue to make progress.
What expenses are covered?
Aside from the $15k grant, your hotels, flights, and transport for the kick-off and summit will be covered.
Do I need a registered company to qualify?
Nope. Your project can be a rough idea, a lab experiment, or an open-source tool. If itā€™s ambitious and technical, weā€™re in.
Who can apply?
Undergrads and co-terms in the US or Canada. You must be able to commit 3 days at the end of June and 3 days in September. You should already be working on a deep-tech project (research, open-source, side project).
Can I apply with a team?
The š‘“(LUX) fellowship is designed for individuals not teams, but we welcome you and all your friends.
How many grantees will there be?
We're planning to keep our fellowship class around 10-15 people.
